Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of RAS is working on the creation of an automated system of under-ice soundings, designed to monitor the state of the marine environment and meteorological parameters in the Arctic.

04/23/2019 at the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society Vladimir Putin held the eleventh meeting of the board of trustees of the Russian Geographical Society, at which the results of the organization’s work for 2018 were discussed and the signing ceremony of the Russian Championship Globe took place. V.V. Putin, F. Paulsen and A.M. Sagalevich left their autographs on the Globe.

The Institute of Oceanology received a certificate of state accreditation of educational activities for the training programs of scientific and pedagogical personnel in postgraduate studies in the fields of Earth Science and Biological Sciences.

March 26, 2019, on the initiative of the French side, there was a meeting of the Acting Director of the IO RAS A.V. Sokov with Dr. Abdo Malac, Counselor of the Embassy of France in Russia. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director of the Institute P.O. Zavyalov, head of the large-scale processes and climate department, S.K. Gulev, Assistant Director for International Relations V.M. Sukhov; Florian Rastello, coordinator for innovation at the Embassy of France in Russia on the French side.

 

Acting Director of the Institute of Oceanology, Alexey Sokov, took part in an expanded meeting of the Russian Engineering Union and the League of Assistance to Defense Enterprises. The meeting was held on February 5 at the Government House of the Russian Federation and was devoted to the issues of diversification of defense industry enterprises in the shipbuilding industry.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has posted on its official website an information message about the start of accepting documents from candidates for the post of Director of the IO RAS. In the near future, the date of the meeting of the Academic Council will be announced on the site of the IO RAS.

On December 6, 2017, at the initiative of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), the UN General Assembly decided to “proclaim the 10-year period beginning January 1, 2021, as the United Nations Decade on Ocean Science for Sustainable Development” (A/RES/72/73).

November 28 - 29, 2018 the International Round Table “The Future of the Caspian Sea. Research projects and studies”will hold at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of RAS. The detailed information is on the website: caspian.ocean.ru

From 19 to 22 November, 2018, the VII International Scientific and Practical Conference "Marine Research and Education (MARESEDU - 2018)" will be held. Venue: M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of RAS, Zoological Museum of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The 10th International Conference “Marine Mammals of the Holarctic” was held in Arkhangelsk October 29 - November 2, 2018. To participate in the conference, the Institute of Oceanology delegated a large team of researchers who presented a number of oral and poster presentations.
