Three young scientists from the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been named winners of the 2026 competitive selection for the Scholarship of the President of Russia for postgraduate and adjunct students:
- Ulyana Kazakova, a postgraduate student at the IO RAS from the Laboratory of Biohydrochemistry, who studies the features of the hydrochemical structure of the surface freshened layer of the Arctic seas of Russia;
- Veronika Naumova, a postgraduate student at the IO RAS from the Analytical Laboratory, is studying the transformation of organic compounds in the coastal zone of the Black Sea using the example of the 2024 fuel oil spill;
- Vasilisa Koshkina, a postgraduate student at MIPT from the Laboratory of Marine Meteorology at the IO RAS, is working on the identification, tracking, and classification of mesoscale eddies in the atmosphere using numerical modeling data.
The competition received over 6,000 applications from 79 regions of Russia. Compared to last year, the number of participants increased by more than 30%. 800 young researchers were awarded the scholarship, each of whom will receive a monthly stipend of 75,000 rubles. The payment is granted for a period of one to four years.
