The Laboratory of bio-hydrochemistry is working on the offshore section of the Gelendzhik carboniferous range at the Southern Branch of the Institute of Oceanology of RAS. The purpose of the work is to assess the emission and absorption of greenhouse gases at the water-atmosphere boundary, the tasks include monitoring the content of carbon dioxide, monitoring the components of the Black Sea carbonate system (alkalinity, pH acidity index).

The staff of the Ocean Optics Laboratory carried out work in the Southern Branch of the IO RAS from June 2 to 15 on the small research boat Ashamba. A number of sub-satellite measurements of the biooptical characteristics of sea water were continued, both at stations and on the ship's course. The equipment was tested before the Arctic expedition season.

The Ishlinsky Institute for Problems in Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Physics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University and the Branch of Moscow State University in Sevastopol invite you to take part in the Ninth International Scientific Conference-School of Young Scientists "Physical and Mathematical modeling of processes in geoenvironments” on October 18-20, 2023.

On April 5, 2023, the Moscow Institute of Architecture (State Academy, Moscow Architectural Institute) hosted the Round Table “Museums of Higher Educational Institutions. Variability of Formation and Development Scenarios” within the framework of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Science, Education and Experimental Design – 2023”.

March 20 marks the 90th anniversary of the leading Russian scientist in the field of geology and geophysics of the ocean - chief researcher of the Laboratory of Geophysical Fields of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation Alexander Moiseevich Gorodnitsky - the geophysicist and the poet.

Russian scientists from the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have discovered near-bottom currents of Antarctic bottom water in the equatorial part of the Atlantic Ocean. These currents fill the deepest depressions in this region with depths of more than 7800 m, and also carry cold bottom waters to the east and further northward, determining the temperature of the bottom layer over a large area of the Northeast Atlantic.

On February 7, 2023, a meeting dedicated to the Day of Russian Science was held in the building of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences. During the meeting, a ceremony was held for the solemn awarding of medals of the Russian Academy of Sciences with prizes for young scientists of Russia and for students of higher educational institutions of Russia following the results of the 2021 competition.
